Christian
Counseling Does Not Equal Biblical Counseling
Introduction:
Most Christians know that not all Christian
counseling is Biblical counseling. But do we really stop to consider that
not all Biblical counseling is accurate counseling? There are many ways to
interpret scripture regarding all issues of life. Also, we live in a
fallen world and in an increasingly immoral secular society, whose influences on
us we must not ignore, but rather be fully cognizant of.
Dealing with drugs:
Having the right answers:
-
How would you as a counselor-in-training know
if anything important was left out of your counseling training?
- How would you as a counselor-in-training know if what you were being
taught about biblical counseling was not accurate?
The answers to these two questions can be found
in one word: experience - that of your own and that of others who have
gone before you. The "others" can include those spiritually mature Christians
who have been married for some time and who have healthy relationships with
their spouses and their children. Keep in mind that experience must
include experience in living and applying biblical knowledge, so the counselor
must truly be born from above, must have a very thorough knowledge of scripture,
and in particular, must have a solid grasp of the fallen nature of man (i.e.
total depravity) - as well as the sovereignty of God. |
